Recently, I had the pleasure to get to know a wonderful bride, who told me a most romantic story of how her fiancee and her would travel every weekend to see each other across different cities. It was a story unique to them and she wanted me to create a wedding invitation suite that reflected the journey of their romance and their beautiful destination wedding.
We tossed around ideas of airplane route maps, shared lots of vintage travel imagery, of which we were both most enthusiastic about! She showed me a detailed chronology of their travel history together and I started piecing together what would hopefully be a special account of their relationship, frozen forever on paper.
Holly shared with me that she would like a large map of some sort for her wedding, and this sparked me to try out an idea that have always lingered in the back of my sustainable creative muse-the notion of a jigsaw puzzle rsvp set where each piece sent out was one-of-a-kind and vital to the completion of the whole picture. This idea clicked in Holly’s invitations suite, as she was beckoning her guests to travel to St Lucia to complete their (the wedding couple’s) romantic voyage.
Journey, adventure, completion and continuation thus became key factors behind this RSVP set. However, the most important concept was to let the guests know that each of them had a special part in the big picture of their wedding, and upon receipt of the RSVPs, the wedding couple would be able to piece them together to form a large keepsake map!
There were many details that were so fun to work on in this suite. For example, Holly was thrilled with the compass/wedding logo I drew up of the two of them on a little vintage airplane, and decided towards the end that she would like matching stickers of them to seal her pocketfold inner envelopes. It definitely became one of many ideas in this collaboration that worked out seamlessly, Holly was a great co-art director who knew exactly what she loved and wanted 🙂
It was such a blessing to work on this suite, to be able to share the personal history and story behind the wedding couple and be a part of such an important milestone in their life travels. I hope the invitations succeed in exciting their guests and I wish them both the very best!
