Featured Project: A Bohemian Wedding in LA

Today’s new post is the very first of our brand new Featured Project series and I am very excited to be writing about it. Usually our current projects are posted about in Atelier Tuesday or Thursdays but I have decided to be very focused about it for some our custom projects and show you a little more of the creative process.

The Featured Project image will appear on the front of our main website’s home page at the very bottom. It is laid out (like the image above) to show the initial concept or charette sketch, the inspirational moodboard, color scheme strip and the final finished piece or ensemble. (Click on image above to see it larger.) With this, I am hoping to give you an idea, in a nutshell, all the parts and pieces that help inspire and form the final creation. This will usually be linked to a blog post like this or directly into the project gallery.

Map-style invitation for Smog Shoppe Wedding

The first project I will be showing you is a map-style invitation for Diana and Josh’s beautiful bohemian wedding in the always awesome Smog Shoppe in LA. You would have probably seen the sneek peeks and glimpses of it elsewhere on the blog or website.

Diana and Josh are a stylist and photographer respectively so very visual folks and it was a lot of fun to come up with something together. The star of the show was Los Angeles, specifically the Venice Beach and surrounding areas close to their home. They wanted to show their out of town guests a map of their beloved home, their little red cottage, the red double decker bus that will take them to the wedding site as well as Smog Shoppe itself.

Their save-the-date was a gorgeous postcard in magenta and gold tones and looking through their other pictures, it was clearly emerging as as color theme. A vintage Kilim runner rug that was used in the wedding ceremony lent bold vermilion tones and became the inspiration for the painted rsvp belly band.

The final artwork map invitation itself was printed on a gorgeously rustic handmade Nepalese paper, which tore to fluffy fibrous edges and included a thick matching lotka paper envelope.

And finally, to complete the ensemble, a matching thank you card on matching papers!
